Liz Wilcox said I could

A few weeks ago, I was at Kit's Craft + Commerce conference and ended up seated next to the delightful Liz Wilcox at dinner.

In case you don’t know Liz: she’s the Fresh Princess of Email, she’s built a multiple-six-figure business from a $9/month membership (goals fr), and she was on Survivor (yes, really!).

At some point during dinner, she turned to me and said she was, I quote, “sick of people kissing up to her.” And that if I wanted the visibility, I could do a teardown of her famous membership sales page. No filter or kissing up required.

So I took her up on it. (I mean, who am I to say no to the Fresh Princess of Email??)

What’s interesting about Liz’s sales page is that it’s already pretty dang strong. (I mean, how many of you reading this here have already been sold into her membership from it?)

Which means I had to dig quite a bit deeper than the surface-level “common copy mistakes” feedback.

Here’s what I got into:

  • The biggest strategic gap I found on her page
  • Why I called out a phrase that I also have on my website (yes, Liz, we can do better!)
  • Where the page loses a little momentum right when it should be closing in
  • What “sounds like a human being” actually looks like on a sales page (rarer than it should be in 2026)
  • What Liz’s origin story is doing that most bios completely miss (hint: it starts with Mountain Dew and a dream)

Click here or below to watch the “no kissing up allowed” teardown. ⤵

And if you’d like this kind of “no kissing up allowed” feedback on your copy…

Then the Quarterly Copy Pass is for you! Closing for the quarter at the end of the week(end).

Here’s a rapid-fire “let’s make your website (or sales page) convert better” tip for you on this fine Thursday morning. It’s about your bio. You see, most bios do a perfectly *acceptable* job of explaining what someone does. And hey, they might even cover how they do it. But they still remain painfully generic with something like: “I’m a [title] who helps [audience] achieve [outcome].” Which sounds okay (ish)! Until you realize it also sounds like it could have been written by ~literally...

10 years ago this month, I found myself back in the U.S., fresh off a difficult year of teaching English in South Korea (plus another 3 months of backpacking in Asia with my newish-at-the-time husband), sitting down in my still-bare living room googling “how to make a living writing online.” Amazingly, I’ve managed to make an entire career out of that single Google Search… and am still here, much to my own surprise, a decade later. Here’s what I’ve learned since then. [Part 1 of 2!] 1)...
