I have an (embarrassing) secret, dear reader. I didn’t have a website for the first FIVE years of my business. (Do I think this was the right call? No. Do I recommend it? No. Would I do it again? Also no.) And then, when I finally got around to actually building one… it was, to put it generously, a jerry-rigged, thrown-together-on-Wordpress situation that I cobbled together just to have something up. It didn’t really communicate my value. It certainly didn’t communicate what made me different. And it did little more than show I ~existed~. (Admittedly, I would argue that my current site could also use a bit of a revamp. But we’re going to save that particular existential crisis for later this year. Just let me enjoy my annual summer trip to visit the in-laws in Brazil first, okay??) Anyway. If any of this is sounding a little too familiar. If you find yourself feeling vaguely embarrassed every time someone asks for your URL (leading to the inevitable “I’m going through a rebrand so don’t look too closely at this” caveat). Or hey, even if you think your website looks pretty good but still know there’s more potential in terms of converting visitors. (i.e., More sales! More inquiries! More subscribers!) Then you’re going to want to tune in to the workshop I’m co-hosting next Monday, June 29th with Christi Cooper of Cooper & Heart Design + Branding. It’s called The 3 Cs of a Website That Converts, and it’ll bring together both the copy AND the design perspective. Join us for laughter, tears (okay fine, it won’t be that dramatic), and some tips n’ tweaks to make sure your website isn’t just sitting there lookin’ pretty… But instead is strategically built to turn visitors into leads, clients, and sales. Basically, you’re getting two experts for the price of one. Though the real joke is on us, because Christi and I made this free.
~Nicole P.S. Yup, there’s a recording available if you can’t make it live! P.P.S. Q3 is now (almost) upon us… which means I’ve got a couple o’ spots opening up for the Quarterly Copy Pass starting in July. If you write your own copy (AI-assisted or otherwise) and want expert eyes on it before you hit publish, this one’s for you. Scope it out here.

Join the weekly (ish) newsletter for business owners who want their copy to sell without the sleaze, excessive sales pressure, or disappearing into the AI-flavored sea-of-sameness. Served alongside embarrassing personal stories, the occasional (okay fine, *frequent*) existential crisis, and at least one parenthetical aside per email.
Here’s a rapid-fire “let’s make your website (or sales page) convert better” tip for you on this fine Thursday morning. It’s about your bio. You see, most bios do a perfectly *acceptable* job of explaining what someone does. And hey, they might even cover how they do it. But they still remain painfully generic with something like: “I’m a [title] who helps [audience] achieve [outcome].” Which sounds okay (ish)! Until you realize it also sounds like it could have been written by ~literally...
My 10-year business-iversary was this July, and I’m marking the occasion with a classic “10 lessons from 10 years in business.” Part 2 incoming below. Catch part 1 (lessons 1-5) here ICYMI! 6) Perfectionism will be the (second) death of you. [Wondering what the first is? I was being serious when I said to check out part 1 if you missed it. Link here ;-)] Hi, I’m Nicole Elliott, and chronic overthinking and/or agonizing may as well be my middle name. (Yes, I totally overthunk – not a word, I’m...
10 years ago this month, I found myself back in the U.S., fresh off a difficult year of teaching English in South Korea (plus another 3 months of backpacking in Asia with my newish-at-the-time husband), sitting down in my still-bare living room googling “how to make a living writing online.” Amazingly, I’ve managed to make an entire career out of that single Google Search… and am still here, much to my own surprise, a decade later. Here’s what I’ve learned since then. [Part 1 of 2!] 1)...
